About Me

Sára, ceramicist

I grew up in Palkonya, a small village in southern Hungary. Art runs in my family: my grandparents were artists too, and my father had a ceramics workshop in another house in the village, not far from ours. That’s where I learned to throw. On my way home from school I’d always stop by, sit on my little chair, and tell him about my day.

He passed away when I was nine, and for a long time the workshop stayed quiet. My mother, who works as a ceramics teacher, still spends a lot of time there and comes to make things too.

I trained as a horticultural engineer, but after graduating I realised that what I really wanted to work with was clay, which has been part of my life all along. So I decided to study ceramics at the University of Pécs as a second degree, and that’s how I became a ceramicist myself.

In January 2026 the workshop finally became mine. Deciding what to keep and what to let go was harder than any glaze test, but it also felt like the “someday” I had always talked about had arrived.

There is still a sign on the wall of the workshop that my father made: Ad Fontem, “back to the source”. I’m not trying to repeat his life. I’m looking for my own source, and I’d like to make beautiful, useful things that people are happy to take home and use.

Come and have a look around, or better yet, visit the studio in person.
